I AM

I was regreting the past
And fearing the future.
Suddenly my Lord was speaking:
'My name is I am.'
He paused.
I waited. He continued,

"When you live in the past
with its mistakes and regrets,
it is hard. I am not there.
My name is not I was.

When you live in the future,
with its problems and fears,
it is hard. I am not there.
My name is not I WILL BE.

When you live in this moment
it is not hard. I am here.
My name is "I AM."

This came to me too from a missionary friend, Roger Butz. I do not know when this happened exactly, but not long ago. A living example to remind us that we have a life which is given to us freely at His own cost, and for those who accept this life it is costly indeed!

A letter to the Churches in America from The Protestant Church of
Smyrna

Dear friends,

This past week has been filled with much sorrow. We send our condolences for the slaying of all those university students in Virginia. May the Lord comfort the families and friends of the victims and all those impacted by the tragedy!

Many of you have heard by now of our devastating loss here in Turkey:
On Wednesday morning, 46 year old German missionary and father of
three, Tilman Geske, kissed his wife goodbye as he left to go to the Turkish church office, which was also the location of the church's ministry, Zirve Publishing. Zirve prints and distributes Christian literature to Malatya and nearby cities in Eastern Turkey. In another area of town, 35 year old Pastor Necati Aydin, father of two, said goodbye to his wife leaving for the office as well. They had a morning Bible Study and prayer meeting that some other believers in town would also be attending. Ugur Yuksel also made his way to the Bible study.

None of these three men knew that what awaited them at the Bible study
was the ultimate testing and application of their faith, which would
conclude with their entrance into glory to receive their crown of
righteousness from Christ and honor from all the saints awaiting them
in the Lord's presence.

On the other side of town, ten young Muslims all under 20 years put
in to place final arrangements for their ultimate act of faith, living out their love for Allah and hatred of infidels who undermined their
religion.

On Resurrection Sunday, five of these men had been to a
by-invitation-only evangelistic service that Pastor Necati and his men
had arranged at a hotel conference room in the city. The men were
known to the believers as "seekers." No one knows what happened in the
hearts of those men as they listened to the gospel. Were they touched by the Holy Spirit? Were they convicted of sin? Did they hear the gospel in their hearts? Today we only have the beginning of their story.

These men, one of whom is the son of a mayor in the province of
Malatya, are part of a Tarikat, or a group of "faithful believers" in Islam. Tarikat membership is highly respected here; it's like a fraternity membership. In fact, it is said that no one can get into public office without membership in a Tarikat. These men all lived in the same dorm, possibly owned by that Tarikat.

The men got guns and knives ready for their final act of service to
Allah. They arrived in time for the Bible Study, around 11. They arrived, tied Ugur, Necati, and Tilman's hands and feet to chairs
and as they videoed their work on their cellphones, they tortured our
brothers for two hours. Tilman was stabbed 156 times, Necati 99 times
and Ugur's stabs were too numerous to count. They were disemboweled, and their intestines sliced up in front of their eyes. They were emasculated and watched as those body parts were destroyed. Fingers were chopped off, their noses and mouths and anuses were sliced open. Finally, their throats were sliced from ear to ear, practically decapitated.

Neighbors in workplaces near the print-house said later they had heard
yelling, but assumed the owners were having a domestic argument so
they did not respond.

Meanwhile, another believer Gokhan and his wife had a leisurely
morning, he slept in till 10, ate a long breakfast and finally around 1 PM he and his wife arrived at the office. The door was locked from the inside, and his key would not work. He phoned and though it had connection on his end he did not hear the phone ringing inside. He called cell phones of his brothers and finally Ugur answered his phone. "We are not at the office. Go to the hotel meeting. We are there. We will come there," he said cryptically. Meanwhile, in the background Gokhan heard weeping and a strange snarling sound.

He phoned the police, and the nearest officer arrived in about five
minutes. He pounded on the door, "Police, open up!" Initially he
thought it was a domestic disturbance. At that point they heard
another snarl and a gurgling moan. The police understood that sound as human suffering, prepared the clip in his gun and burst through the door, to find the grisly scene.

Tilman and Necati had been slaughtered, practically decapitated with
their necks slit from ear to ear. Necati and Ugur's throats were slit
in the previous minutes before the door was kicked in. Ugur was
barely alive.

Four assailants dropped their weapons. Meanwhile Gokhan heard a sound of yelling in the street. The fifth man had jumped out of the third story window from the office. Running down, he found a man he recognized named Emre. He had massive head trauma and strangely, was snarling. It turns out that he was the main leader of the attacks.

What follows is almost as disturbing as the act itself. Amidst public
outcry against the event, public officials from the Prime Minister to
the local government and mayors of Malatya, Ankara, Izmir; media and
Muslim leaders alike; judges, prosecutors; all the leaders blame the
Christians for the act. Interviews with these leaders are filled
With the same idea, "We hope you've learned your lesson. You shouldn't be doing these things." Even the Public Prosecutor of Malatya, who will prosecute these murderers shares the view that these "young men" are not to blame for their savagery. The Malatya Governor smirked as he spoke of the attacks.

The church of Christ in Turkey responded in a way that honored God;
hundreds of believers and dozens of pastors flew in as fast as they
could to stand by the small church of Malatya and encourage the
believers, take care of legal issues, and represent Christians to the
media.

When Suzanna Tilman expressed her wish to bury her husband in Malatya,
the Governor tried to stop it, and when he realized he could not stop
it, he told all people that "it is a sin to dig a grave for a
Christian." In the end, the believers who had come up from Adana
grabbed shovels and dug a grave for him in an untended hundred year
old Armenian graveyard.

Yesterday was Necati's funeral. It took place here in Izmir since he
was initially from here. The darkness does not understand the light.
Though the churches expressed their forgiveness for the event,
Christians were not to be trusted. Before they would load the coffin
onto the plane, it went through two separate xray exams to make sure
it was not loaded with explosives.

Though it took a lot of late-into-the hour planning, the funeral was a
beautiful event. Thousands of Turkish Christians and missionaries
came to show their love for Christ, and their honor for this man chosen to die for Christ. Like a piece of heaven. It took place outside at
Buca Baptist church. Two assistant Governors of Izmir were there solemnly watching the event from the front row. Dozens of news agencies were there documenting the events with live news and photographs. Who knows the impact the funeral had on those watching? This is the beginning of their story as well. Pray for them.

Please pray for the Church of Christ in Turkey. Don't pray against
persecution, pray for perseverence. The church is better having lost
our brothers, the fruit in our lives, the renewed faith, the burning
desire to spread the gospel to quench more darkness in Malatya ...all
these are not to be regretted. Pray that we stand strong against
external opposition and especially pray that we stand strong against
internal struggles with sin, our true weakness.

This we know; Christ Jesus was there when our brothers were giving
their lives for Him. He was there, like he was when Stephen was being
stoned in Saul of Tarsus's sight.

Someday the video of the deaths of our brothers may reveal more to us
about the strength that we know Christ gave them to endure their last
cross, about the peace the Spirit of God endowed them with to suffer
for their beloved Savior. But we know He did not leave their side. We know their minds were full of Scripture strengthening them to endure, as darkness tried to subdue the unsubduable Light of the Gospel. We know they knew they would soon be with Christ.

We don't know the kind of justice that will or will not be served on this earth. But we pray- and urge you to pray- that someday one of those five boys will come to faith because of the testimony in death of Tilman Geske, who gave his life as a missionary to the beloved Turks and the testimony in death of Necati Aydin and Ugur Yuksel, the martyrs for Christ out of the Turkish Church.

He will continue to use the fellowship of OTS for "ripple-effect blessings" to the whole world! 'Rejoice' for this honorable responsibility!

(You can visit my blog at www.petertkentmissiodei.blogspot.com)

My dear OTS brothers and sisters, you know, I am being tested from all aspects and sad to say I have been knowingly submitting to these tests and trials that I face! I have not been able to carry the banner of Jesus Christ faithfull--the 'Cross' in my endeavour as a disciple. And more so I have been worst than Peter--who denied Jesus for three times, I have been worst than Paul who began his ministry for God by persecuting the followers of Jesus Christ, I have been worst than Thomas who looked for proves about the truth of Jesus Christ though he himself was a disciple. They were later restored to true discipleship--which cost their lives, a death which was not design by nature. They were killed/murdered/ martyred because of the cause which they stood for, without any compromise.

I do not know how I can commit myself for His cause—all I know and see myself is a rebellious sinner who still desires to live for His cause and glory alone—with all the limitations! I know I am weak and yet my soul and spirit does not want me to compromise and submit to the schemes of the enemy through "the principalities of this world!" The Lord's mercy, grace and peace surpass all the wealth of this universe! "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet."

I just do not know what will happen the next second...I am totally helpless! But all I know is that--my trust is in Him and in Him alone—the best Guide, Shield and Shepherd! I am learning more to hear His voice among the many voices!

You know what, there is none who can be trusted and relied on in this whole wide world except the One who gave His life for us by being despised, betrayed, rejected, humiliated, beaten, spat, nailed, pierced, hung...like an outlawed criminal—worst than a sinner like me by my very own ancestors! At His humiliated and costly death, I have life, acceptance, hope and love—which in fact is costly too! (Many have forgotten or overlooked its cost). I have the best gift ever—a forgiven sinner, saved and called to let His name be known, trusted, honored and glorified!

My greatest endeavor now is to make His priority my priority, His nature my nature, His compassion my compassion, His wisdom my wisdom, His forgiveness my forgiveness, His servanthood my servanthood, His closeness with the Father mine too, His grace my grace, His kingdom my kingdom, His royalty and nobility mine too, His inheritance my inheritance...I just can't keep on writing...it will not be sufficient and in fact it may not be able to express all! All I know is that the Spirit intercedes for me!

My inner eyes and ears have been opened to see and hear how the world is, even in ministries and ministers' lives! May the Lord continue to have mercy--first on me and then to the world!

You know, this is not a prefect world, this is not the world which God intends us to be--this is a fallen world! And in fact there is neither any perfect church nor any perfect 'churched.' Perfection will be when the Lord comes for the 'true churched,' and as for now we need to spiritually discern this fallen nature and serve each other—to restore each other so that the "Body of Christ" in our community, both near and far, is enlightened, strengthened, guided, discipled and mentored through us so that they are "Transformed to Transform!" God Blesses, the blessings to OTS is having a "ripple-effect blessings" to the whole world! Just "look" around and observed "how the whole world is going after Him."

But beware, my friends, of the Deceiver! The Devil won once in deceiving us but now He has been conquered once and for eternity! The Devil still tries to attack us; he knows where to attack and how to—at our weak spot, through our strength, at those which we are unaware and even through those which we are most careful! He knows how to—he is the best deceiver. He may still deceive us by whispering to us that we are the 'best,' or even the 'better'; that we are the superior and enlightened 'churched and ministers.' "Watch out" for this voice—that was the voice long time back which made the Jews dislike the Gentiles; and even made the Pharisees look down on the other Jews too! And hear, what God said through Paul on this "…but whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ…" (Philippians 3:1ff)!

Praise God, Jesus Christ our Lord and King has won for us; we just have to claim that victory and take the strong-hold of the enemy step by step! Intellectual wisdom of this world, achievements, self-exaltation, hoarded treasures and piety (where our society is very much into those) will lead us nowhere—except death, manifested through frustration, lost focus, un-satisfaction, being busy for worldly values, resentment, jealousy, un-ability to accept and acknowledge other's worth, self-centered attitude, 'my-kingdom building'… In all these, only the eternal and divine "Ancient Words" will guide us home! We have the revelation, direction, authority, prove, commission, assurance, forgiveness, acceptance, hope, peace, joy, love and life!

Be strong in the Lord though in the valley of the shadow of death for I know there is rejoicing, celebration and laughter of joy and victory! God Blesses! He will continue to use the fellowship of OTS for "ripple-effect blessings" to the whole world! 'Rejoice' for this honorable responsibility, but 'watch out' for we will also be accounted accordingly for this responsibility too!

I do not know about tomorrow! All I know is that He cares for you and OTS family, and that He loves us! He likes to see us (OTS family) making the best choice for those which God has designed in our life!

Yours truly,
Peter T. Kent

RENGMA BAPTIST MISSION IN THE SOUTH-EAST HIMALAYAS

It is our vision to share the Good News of Jesus
Christ with thousands of people in the Himalayas. It
is a concern of Mission where the hurting, the
depressed, the frustrated, and the confused can find
love acceptance, help, hope, forgiveness, guidance,

having fellowship and developing people to spiritual
maturity through teachings, seminars, and training. It
is an attempt of equipping believers and reproducing
of local workers for short and long-term personal life
witness of God. It is the dream of designing holistic
ministry focusing on the spiritual, emotional,

What Does God Sees In Me?

When God looks upon my life, what kind of a person does He see? Does He see a reflection of His image or does He just see me? Does He see the person He wanted me to be? Does He see me as the product of His hand or just another Christian working/living hard to please Him? Does He see me as His own child, a child that He set free? Does He see a child living his life to honor Him or a child trying to gain honor for himself?

What about the people I meet everyday along the way? Do I show them Jesus, to brighten up their lives? When someone looks into my eyes do they truly see that calm and gentle peace of God that dwells inside of me? When I reach out and shake a hand, is He right there in my grip? Can they feel that strength from God, that steadies when I slip? When people are in my presence, do they know His Spirit's there? Can they see that He's the one, who guides me everywhere? When other people think of me, what is on their mind? Do they think of Jesus Christ working in and through me? I try to be like Jesus every single day. Spreading His love and kindness as best as I can. But I'm afraid that I have failed; I could not pass the test. Deep inside my heart I know, I haven't done my best. I have had to fight my flesh, since the day that I was born. It's always causing trouble, and being such a thorn. That's why His Spirit dwells in me; He's helping me to learn in every situation where I need to turn. He knew I'd never pass the test that's why He took my place on the cross. He gave His life to save my soul. He suffered my disgrace and gave me a new life.

Now I try to be like Him and present Him well so other people will want/hunger for His gift, and turn their face towards Him. Other people should see the joy on my face, which Christ has given me. They should want to have it too, especially since it's free. My life should set an example for them to ask me, what is it they must do. Then I get to tell them, this wondrous gift is free. It only takes a humble heart, a sincere prayer on bended knee.

Someday when I'm face to face with the Lord who set me free, will He see His own reflection, or will He just see me? I believe He will see me as His own precious child saved from eternal condemnation by His GRACE.

Galatians 4:6-7 “Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father." So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.”

Happenings

1. Outreach #1, 26 Feb – 9 March 2007. This outreach was a requirement for my training. My team went and helped out in Wawi village and Akha Youth Development Center (North Thailand).

The first week, 26 Feb.-1 March, we constructed a meetinghouse and a toilet for the farmers in Wawi village. For the meetinghouse our team put up the thatch roof and collected sands and stones from the river to make the concrete floor. For the toilet we dig a hole and put up the tin roof. The people in this village look like the Nagas (my own people) so I felt like I was helping my own people in a Naga village.

Our team also conducted worship services at night in the village. We shared the word of God. Some of us shared our testimonies. We also shared the goodness and faithfulness of God through songs. We manage to do home visitation.

2. The second week, 2 – 9 March, our team went and helped the Akha Youth Development Center by leveling soil, constructing road and putting up fence around the new building. On the last night of our outreach we had a blessed time of fellowship with the children living in this center.

I have learned a lot of good things from this two weeks outreach. The most enjoyable part of the outreach was praying together with my team mates, seeking the Lord together, caring one another, having fun together, sharing His love together, and helping the needy people together in unity.

From this trip I’ve learned that I should not focus my mind on the things around me but on the things that God wants me to learn from Him (Colossians 3).

Thanksgiving
1. Thank you for your prayer support. 2. Thank God for His unfailing love. 3. Thank God for His protection during the two weeks ministry. 4. Thank God for providing my needs through different people. 5. Thank God for healing me from sickness. 6. Thank God for He has been working in and through my life.

Prayer request
1. From 17-29 April 2007 we will be heading towards the mountain (North Thailand) again for our second outreach. Pray that my teammates and me will be a blessing to the villagers.
2. Continue to pray that I’ll be able to finish my training/requirements in good health.
3. Pray for my family members at home. Especially my mother who is now 75 years old.

GoneFishing-Nico'sFeb'07

Dear Friend,

Greetings to you from Chiang Rai, North Thailand. I hope and believe that you are enjoying your days/life in the presence of the Lord.

I’m fine and having a blessed time in Chiang Rai. I’m attending a Discipleship Training School in Chiang Rai, right now. The weather is cold and very pleasant in Chiang Rai. So far everything is going well except I'm not getting enough sleep haha. Ten of us, men, are sharing a big room. Things are not always the way we expected it to be but the Lord is good and helping us to respect and learn from each other.

DTS is an exciting 6 months program. It is an international bi-lingual program and about 34 students from 10 different countries are attending the program. Coming from different backgrounds and cultures make it difficult for us to adjust with one another for about two weeks. But the Lord is knitting us together as a family. We are beginning to love each other, enjoying each other and having fun together. The Lord is leading and guiding us to learn more about Him from each other.

The schedule is tight and demanding. Our daily events starts at 6 AM and ends at 9 PM. It is tough and tiring, but we are all persevering to finish the race because DTS is preparing us for evangelism and missions, giving us the opportunity to hunger for more of Jesus and for each of us to experience His healing hand upon our lives. Our DTS theme is “Run With Perseverance” based on Philippians 3:7-14. I’ve felt the Lord urging me to be deliberate in seeking Him with all my heart, soul, mind and strength because It is so easy to get distracted and to be chasing after things that are appealing to me, but is this really what God has called me to? Many times His call upon my life requires me to press in, to persevere, to run the race and not to give up. With this thought of perseverance in my mind, I’m surrendering my life daily to the Lord to learn more about Him, because I want to know more about Him to make Him known better to others.

We are getting different teachings on particular topics every week. Last week we learned about sin and repentance. It was a great week for most of us because many of us broke down and repented of our secret sins and re-committed our lives to God. This week we are learning about the person and work of the Holy Spirit. God is teaching me many new things and I’m getting excited.

We’ve just finished our first month of DTS and this week we are praying and preparing ourselves for the first outreach. We are divided into five groups and we will be heading to different villages on the mountains, north Thailand, next week to do different ministries.

1. Journey to Chiang Rai: I started my journey on 17 January 2007 by taking a flight to Chiang Mai. I stayed in Chiang Mai two nights (17 & 18) with a Naga Missionary family. On 19 January morning I took a bus and went to see the works of this Naga missionary in Pua, Nan. I visited a student home run by this family and shared my testimony with the children. I spent one night with the family in Pua, Nan. The next morning (20th January) I took a bus from Nan and reach Chiang Rai at 2 PM. The journey was long but I enjoyed it because it is like traveling on the mountain back home in Nagaland. The mountains look very much like Nagaland, India.

2. Our DTS started on 21 January 2007 and it will go on till 22 July 2007. Some of the things we have done so far are: The first week we had our orientation, second week we were taught how to listen to the voice of God and intercede, third week we learned about the Nature and Character of God, Fourth week we learned about sin and repentance, this week we are learning about the Ministry of the Holy Spirit.

3. Friday ministry: Every Friday night we go out to different location in Chiang Rai and do ministries. I’m into Campus ministries, so we go to the university campus and make friends with the students. Once we make friends with them we invite them to a coffee shop run by YWAM, play games, share testimony, Bible study, and eat. One student gave his life to Jesus last Friday night.

4. Outreach: From 26 February – 9 March we are going to different villages on the mountains in Chiang Rai to carry out our first outreach. The students are divided into 5 groups. There are 10 people in my group from 5 different countries. My group will be ministering in one of the Mawi village for the first week and to another village in the second week.

5. Second outreach is from April 16-27 April 2007. We don’t know which place we will go during this time. We are asked to pray and ask God to give a place where we can go and share the gospel.

6. Our major outreach starts from June 11-July 13. Our team will be going down to south of Thailand to help a community and share the gospel to them.

Thanksgiving
1. For His monthly provision.
2. For His unfailing love.
3. For family members, church members, friends, and supporters, for their faithful help & support.
4. For the things I’ve been learning at DTS.

Prayer Request:
1. Pray for my health. I’m coughing and having sore throat for the last four days.
2. Pray that God will humble my heart to learn more from Him and serve Him better.
3. Pray that God will use my friends and me to minister to the Hill tribe people in north Thailand during our first outreach.
4. Pray for God’s protection over my life.

Thank you so much For supporting and keeping me In your prayer. May God bless you.

Peter T. Kent with the Karen People in Maela Refugee camp

(Visit my blog www.petertkentmissiodei.blogspot.com)
Since July 2005, I have been with the Karen people in the Kawthoolie Karen Baptist Bilbe School and College in Maela refugee camp along the Thai-Burma border. They are one of the major ethnic groups of people who have been facing intense and active genocidal persecutions from the Burmese junta for around five decades.

This camp is one of the seven major camps along the border inside Thailand. There are around 55,000 refugees here in the camp alone. They are confined in the camp and hardly have the oppurtunity to earn their living--though some do small scale business.

These displaced people (refugees) are supported by many NGOs. They get their daily rations in terms of rice, charcoal for fuel, cooking oil, fish paste, and bamboos and leaves for houses. Besides these supports, they are also supported in terms of education--schools and the stationaries for school; health clinics; vocational schools; computer education; engineering college, and bible schools.

For many of them, their whole lives circle in and around the camp. Decades of years have gone by with the hope to return to their homeland but no sign of political improvement inside Burma, rather a continous displacement of people in huge scale from inside their homeland. Many people who cannot make it to the camps have to opt to stay in the forest in groups and have to be "On the Run" (a documentary on the Internally Displaced People inside Burma) relying on their physiological abilities to digest and assimilate anything they eat for their food as the means for survival.

The UN has been helping these people by working hand in hand with many organizations. One way of giving them a better chance, besides the camps, for their future is to send them to the third countries which are willing to accept them. Many have been sent to the States, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and Australia.

Dear Friends

Greetings and trust you are doing well. I have a good news! Last December Kenesa (alumnus, 1996)donated Rs. 1000 for the OTSAF. Thank you so much for this gift. May God bless you, Ken. Kenesa, by the way, is married to Jim Hinen and now resides in the US.

Another information that I thought you guys should know is about the proposed OTSAF general gathering in March, 2007. As of now the build up to this gathering is not very positive. But very soon I will give the concrete information about whether we will be able to have this meeting.

I will sign off here. Blessings to you.

Asinlo Khing - Ordination

Dear friends in Christ,

I and my family would like to share this big task
entrusted to us for God's ministry. I will be getting ordained
on 11th of Februarye 2007 through the Rengma Baptist
Churches Council at new Town church, Tseminyu,
Nagaland. On the one hand, it is a joy to be affirmed by our
people for God's ministry, but on the other hand it is also
scary to shoulder such a huge life time responsibility
for God's ministry. We need your constant prayer for our lives and ministry. Please remember us in your prayers.

Partners in Christ,
Asinlo and Amen

Note: Asinlo and Amen with their two toddlers are based in Siliguri, WB. Both of them are first batch graduates from OTS.

Blogsite for OTS Alumni

Greetings from OTS!

Trust you have had a wonderful and blessed Christmas. May you continue to cherish the peace of Jesus Christ as you look forward to the year 2007.

I also want to inform you all that James Longkumer has come up with an internet blog for the OTSAF. Thank you for your wholehearted contribution. This is what James had to say concerning this blog site:

“just created a blog site for OTS Alumni. I think this is much better than a website because it is accessible to everyone easily and at the same time one can also make comments and give feedbacks instantly. We can also upload photos too! Moreover, it is easier than maintaining a website and at no cost! Check this out: www.otsalumni.blogspot.com.”

Rush to this blog site and update about yourself! Don’t hesitate to write anything and everything which you think is fun, informative, and necessary.

Let’s try to enjoy this gift. Thank you James once again. Indeed this will make OSTAF world more connected and compact.
